BUTLER - Police recover stolen jewelry
BUTLER - Police arrested a man found with jewelry stolen from a Kakeout Road home in April, but detectives still seek information about the crime, Acting Capt. Jay Dean said.
On May 12, Fred Worthington, 51, of Fairview, was charged with possession of stolen property and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes. He was taken to Morris County Correctional Facility and was released May 15 after posting $10,000 bail.
Police began investigating the burglary in which the jewelry was stolen from the Kakeout Road home on the morning of May 4.
The residents told patrolmen Steve DePascale and Michael Zena that they were on vacation April 15-20. They didn’t notice anything was missing until two weeks later when they went to look for several specific pieces of jewelry, Capt. Dean said.
On May 12 around 2 p.m., police were investigating a report of a suspicious vehicle on Kakeout Road. After stopping the vehicle, officers found Worthington, the driver, with a knife and some of the jewelry stolen from the Kakeout Road home.
Detective Colleen Kober is the investigating officer. Patrolmen Richard Stoll and Jarred Schmiedhauser assisted.
