POMPTON LAKES - NJ gives schools high marks

POMPTON LAKES - The school district is among the top performers in the state Department of Education’s new performance review.
The Department of Education has monitored the schools for the past 25 years to make sure they are complying with state and federal rules and regulations.
This year the Department of Education changed its monitoring process by using a new evaluation study called the New Jersey Quality Single Accountability Continuum (QSAC).
Each school that participated in the evaluation for the 2007-08 school year was judged in accordance with five different categories – fiscal, operations, personnel, governance, and instruction and program.
After the evaluation was completed, Pompton Lakes was categorized as a high performance district. It scored 100 percent in the fiscal, operations and personnel categories; 82 percent in instruction and program; and 89 percent in governance.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Terrance Brennan was pleased the district did so well.
“This says that the teaching staff, the administration and the (school) board cares very much and works hard to do the right things and follows the code and ensures that the instruction programs and the facilities are the best they can be. I’m just proud of everybody,” said Brennan.
Richard Vespucci, Department of Education spokesman, said the district should be pleased with the results of QSAC report.
“Going through this process helps ensure everyone is up to speed and knows what the laws and regulation expect of their performance,” said Vespucci.
The state will stagger evaluating all the districts over a three-year period. There were 124 districts studied this year. Of those, 58 were classified as high performance districts, which did well in all areas. Thirty received successful reviews and the remainder were low performance districts and will be subject to reviewed every six months, Vespucci explained.
