LINCOLN PARK - 'Tis the season for car burglaries
(by Sid Johnston - Staff Writer - December 03, 2008)
LINCOLN PARK - Thanksgiving is the time for family to travel to their distant relatives by car, and unfortunately, the criminal element is aware of that, waiting to exploit any opportunity.
The Police Department is investigating several thefts from vehicles that occurred during the Thanksgiving holiday. According to Sgt. Michael Runfeldt, “Sometime after 8 p.m. on Nov. 26 until Nov. 27, around the morning, 10 vehicles were entered on Valley Road, Kirschner Avenue, Riveredge Road, and Maple Street.”
He said a thief or thieves swiped valuables from seven vehicles, and all of the vehicles were unlocked.
“Items stolen included two GPS (Global Positioning Systems), an electric drill, a portable jack, and approximately $50 in cash and change,” Runfeldt said.
The Police Department is asking anyone who might have witnessed anything suspicious in the area on Nov. 26 to contact headquarters at 973-694-5533 or Morris County CrimeStoppers at 973-COP-CALL (973-267-2255).
Runfeldt reminded residents to always lock their vehicles and homes and to report suspicious activity.
