KINNELON - A deer crashed through the glass door of a Route 23 liquor store on Wednesday, the apparent result of impact with a motor vehicle, Lt. John Schwartz said.
Most likely fleeing the scene of the accident, the deer ran clear through the door around 5:40 p.m. and landed in the middle of an aisle of Roserne Liquors on the northbound side of the highway, Lt. Schwartz said. The store owner, Haresh Patel, said that he heard the glass break and called police after learning the source of the noise.
"It didn't damage anything," other than the glass, the lieutenant said.
Sgt. Christopher Burns and Patrolman Christopher Mucci euthanized the animal and took it outside the business.
In recent weeks, Route 23 in Kinnelon and nearby Butler was also upset by a wayward turkey that insisted on entering the highway at risk to itself and traffic.
