KINNELON - Borough to upgrade website
(by Deborah Walsh - Staff Writer - November 12, 2008)
KINNELON - The borough’s Web site is being fined-tuned to make it a more valuable communications tool.
Councilman James Freda said the Web site will now contain an events calendar, where all town events can be posted for up to a year at a time. Freda said the posted calendar would enable the different organizations in town to better plan events and avoid conflicts.
Councilman Freda noted that recently the Friends of Chas benefit golf outing and the Msgr. John Ryan benefit golf outing were scheduled for the same date. The Msgr. Ryan Golf Outing ended up being rescheduled, but possibly the conflict could have been avoided if a town-wide events calendar had been up and running.
Councilman Freda said the borough will work in conjunction with the Board of Education to see to it that events are posted. Any organization can post an event by following a prompt on the calendar, which allows information to be submitted to Borough Clerk Elizabeth Sebrowski, who will be in charge of the calendar, he said.
Freda said the events calendar has been posted for the first time this month. Cancellations can also be posted on the calendar. The November postings include Veterans Day on Nov. 11, a rabies clinic on Nov. 15 and Borough Council meeting on Nov. 20. Users can click on the event to get more information.
"I think it’s a great idea and it’s something that a lot of people have been asking for. People will be able to look at a year and see what events have been planned and avoid conflicts," said Freda.
Earlier this year, the borough’s official Web site received a new look and was overhauled to make it more user-friendly. Residents can visit the Web site at www.kinnelonboro.org.
Councilmen Freda and Stephen Cobell reviewed different municipal Web sites and found that the ones they liked the most were designed by Cit-e-net LLC of Little Falls. Cit-e-net’s expertise is in municipal Web site design and management. Cit-e-net has a client list of about 20 municipalities including West Milford and Butler. West Milford recently received accolades for having one of the most user-friendly Web sites in Passaic County, he said.
