WANAQUE - A 34-year-old Montclair man was accused of possessing a weapon for unlawful purposes and making terroristic threats after police allegedly observed a butcher knife in his white Jeep Cherokee on Saturday, Nov. 8.
It was a report of a possibly intoxicated driver on Ringwood Avenue that led Patrolman Matt Ralicki to Ringwood Avenue where he observed the vehicle and ultimately stopped it on Meadowbrook Avenue near Sherman Avenue.
While speaking with the motorist, police said Ralicki saw a large black-handled butcher knife within reach of the operator inside the Cherokee, along with several bottles of alcohol. After Patrolman James Cappello arrived to assist, Patrolman Ralicki continued the investigation and determined that the driver was under the influence of alcohol, police said.
Police arrested Richard Morris and lodged the above charges, along with driving under the influence, refusing to submit to a breath-alcohol test, along with open container of alcohol and consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle.
Through their investigation, police learned that Morris had made threats against a Wanaque resident.
With bail set at $25,000, he was transported to Passaic County Jail. An additional charge of terroristic threats was made in Montclair and bail of $30,000 was placed on that charge, Capt. Ken Fackina said. The investigation is continuing.
