OBITUARIES - 11/02/2008


Alvin Struble

RINGWOOD Services were held for Alvin H. Struble, 79, of this community, who died on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008.

Born in Pompton Lakes, Mr. Struble lived in Clifton before moving to Ringwood in 1963. He was the owner of Struble Real Estate, Riverdale. Also, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Bergen County Realtors and a past president of the Ringwood Rotary.

Services were Saturday at the Richards Funeral Home, Riverdale, followed by interment at Midvale Cemetery, Wanaque.

Mr. Struble is survived by his wife, the former Joyce Erhardt; his sons, Gary of Clifton, Glenn of Stillwater, and Mark of Pequannock; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Eunice Doremus

PEQUANNOCK Services were held for Eunice G. Goodemoot Doremus, 92, of Oneonta, N.Y., who died on Monday, Oct. 27, 2008. She was a former resident of this township.

Born in New Jersey, Mrs. Doremus lived in Pequannock for more than 70 years before moving to Oneonta. She was a schoolteacher for the Pequannock Board of Education.

Services were Saturday at the Grace Bible Church, Pequannock, followed by interment at Whitehall Methodist Church Cemetery, Towaco. Arrangements were by Richards Funeral Home, Riverdale.

Mrs. Doremus is survived by her brother, Werden Goodemoot of Dehli, N.Y.

She was predeceased by her sister, Evelyn MacRae.

Lester Powley

WEST MILFORD Services were held for Lester Edwin Powley, 67, of this township, who died on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008.

Born in Bergenfield, Mr. Powley lived in Wyckoff before moving to West Milford 13 years ago.

Services were Saturday at the Reformed Church of Kinnelon. Arrangements were by the Richards Funeral Home, West Milford. Donations may be sent to the Lake Morey Protective Association, P.O. Box 241, Fairlee, VT 05045 or to the Compassionate Care Hospice Foundation, 140 Littleton Road, Parsippany, NJ 07054.

Mr. Powley is survived by his wife, the former Phyllis Ziccardi; his son, Scott, of Greenville, N.Y.; his daughter, Heather, of Wayne; and two grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, Lester and Hilda.

Katherine Trisolini

BUTLER Services were held for Katherine “Eileen” Trisolini, 90, of this borough, who died on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008.

Born in Hoboken, Mrs. Trisolini lived in Jersey City before moving to Butler. She was an assistant for several doctors in Jersey City before retiring.

Services were Tuesday at St. Anthony’s R.C. Church, Butler, followed by interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Butler. Arrangements were by the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pequannock.

Mrs. Trisolini is survived by her sons, John and Robert; her daughters, Eileen Hartman and Kathleen DiLaura; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Mario; and her parents, John and Helen Kennedy.

John Thomson

BLOOMINGDALE Services were held for John Corbett Thomson, 82, of this community, who died on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008.

Born in Alexandria, Scotland, Mr. Thomson came to the United States in 1930 and lived at the Walkill Country Club before moving to Bloomingdale. He was an oil-heating technician for the Shotmeyer Bros. Fuel Company, Hawthorne, for 55 years before retiring in 2007. Also, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Services were Friday at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pequannock.

Mr. Thomson is survived by his wife, Edna; his daughters, Lynn and Joan; his son, Richard; his brother, Hugh, of Bloomingdale; and eight grandchildren.

Evan Holstrom

PEQUANNOCK Services were held for Evan Cameron Holstrom, 73, of the Pompton Plains neighborhood of this township, who died on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008.

Born in Hammond, Ind., Mrs. Holstrom lived in Mahwah and Ridgewood before moving to Pompton Plains. She was a librarian at Ramapo College and later an editor for Pearson Education, Upper Saddle River, before retiring in 2004. Also, she was a member of the Friends of Bill W. and of the choir at the Cedar Crest Village Interfaith Chapel, Pompton Plains.

Services were Friday at the Cedar Crest Village Interfaith Chapel. Arrangements were by M. John Scanlon Funeral Home, Pompton Plains. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Ramapo Bergen Animal Refuge, 2 Shelter Lane, Oakland, NJ 07436.

Mrs. Holstrom is survived by her daughters, Christine Holstrom, Marcia Warren, and Cindy Holstrom; her sister, Jean Acree; and four grandchildren.

She was the daughter of Finlay and Ruth Cameron.

Thomas McArthur

WEST MILFORD Services were held for Thomas W. McArthur, 67, of Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, who died on Friday, Oct. 24, 2008. He was a former resident of this township.

Born in Fountain Hill, Pa., Mr. McArthur lived in West Milford for 40 years before moving to Dover-Foxcroft 17 years ago. He was a carpenter for Local 124, Paterson. Also, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the West Milford Men’s Recreational Softball League and of the National Rifle Association.

Services were Thursday at Richards Funeral Home, West Milford, followed by interment at Cedar Heights Cemetery, West Milford. Donations may be sent to Our Lady of the Snows Parish, P.O. Box 346, Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, 04426.

Mr. McArthur is survived by his wife, the former Miriam McManus; his sons, Joseph of Prescott, Ariz., and David of Bangor, Maine; his mother, Elsie Kardos, of Warwick, N.Y.; his brother, David, of Bangor; a granddaughter; and two step-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his father, Carl.

Dennis Neuvirth

KINNELON Services were held for Dennis A. Neuvirth, 59, of Lodi, who died on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008. He was the brother of Donna Magid of this community.

Services were Thursday at the Alesso Funeral Home, Lodi, followed by interment at St. Nicholas Cemetery, Lodi. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Lodi Ambulance Corps.

Mr. Neuvirth also is survived by his wife, the former Joy Castiglia; his son, Daniel of Lodi; and his other sisters, Carol Schell of Hasbrouck Heights, Deborah Neuvirth of Little Ferry, and MaryAnn Ciccarino of Westwood.

He was predeceased by his brother, John.

Erik Reisinger

PEQUANNOCK Services were held for Erik K. Reisinger, 20, of Huntsville, Ala., who died on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008. He was a former resident of the Pompton Plains neighborhood of this township.

Born in Pompton Plains, Mr. Reisinger lived in Clifton before moving to Huntsville in 1999. He was a robotics mechanic and designer for Trident World Systems, Huntsville.

Services were Thursday at DeLuccia-Lozito Funeral Home, Haledon, followed by mass at St. Paul’s R.C. Church, Prospect Park. Interment was at Christ the King Cemetery, Franklin Lakes.

Mr. Reisinger is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Terry; his sister, Pamela; and his grandmothers, Margaret Reisinger and Justine Monte.

Judith Koppenal

BUTLER Services were held for Judith Alice Agens Koppenal, 59, of Hawthorne, who died on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008. She was the mother of Keith of this borough.

Services were Saturday at the Sixth Reformed Church of North Haledon, followed by interment at Fair Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements were by Browning Forshay Funeral Home, Hawthorne. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Mission Fund of the Sixth Reformed Church or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Mrs. Koppenal also is survived by her husband, Marinus; her other son, Brian, of Wyckoff; her brother, George Agens of Bloomfield; and seven grandchildren.

Douglas Mayer

PEQUANNOCK Services were held for Douglas W. Mayer, 46, of Londonderry, N.H., who died on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008. He was born in the Pompton Plains neighborhood of this community.

Mr. Mayer lived in Wayne before moving to Londonderry 10 years ago. He worked for Motorola Corp., Lowell, Mass. Also, he was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Services were Wednesday in Londonderry. Donations may be sent to the Children of Doug Mayer Fund, c/o Bank of America, 175 Mammoth Road, Londonderry, NH 03053.

Mr. Mayer is survived by his wife, the former Theresa Carr; his daughters, Kim Bouse, Nicole Plourde, and Michelle Mayer; his sons, Matthew and Justin; his parents, Douglas and Carol, of Stockholm; his brother, Dennis, of Verona; his sister, Karen Mazowiecki, of Wayne; his grandmother, Marion Grahn, of Wayne; and two grandchildren.

John Sedlock Jr.

WEST MILFORD Services were held for John Sedlock Jr., 70, who died on Friday, Oct. 24, 2008. He was a former resident of this township.

Arrangements were by the Sedlock Funeral Home, Binghamton, N.Y.

Peter Griffin

PEQUANNOCK Services were held for Peter J. Griffin, 44, of this township, who died on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008.

Born in Paterson, Mr. Griffin lived in Pequannock for most of his life. He was a beverage distribution manager for Dingman’s Dairy. Also, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus Bishop Navaugh Council and a parishioner of Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church, Pequannock.

Services were Friday at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church, Pequannock, followed by interment at the First Reformed Church of Pompton Plains Cemetery, Pequannock.

Mr. Griffin is survived b y his wife, the former Michele Cropanese; his sons, Ryan and Patrick; his brother, Thomas.

 Albert Martin

PEQUANNOCK Services were held for Albert Martin, 88, of the Pompton Plains neighborhood of the township, who died on Friday, Oct. 24, 2008.

Born in New York City, Mr. Martin lived in Paterson and then in Totowa for more than 50 years before moving to Pompton Plains two years ago. He was a letter carrier and later a supervisor for the U.S. Post Office, Paterson, where he worked for 35 years before retiring in 1980. A U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, he flew more than 22 missions as a B-17 bomber pilot. He was a member of the Riverside Veterans, Paterson, as well.

Services were Monday at the Festa Memorial Funeral Home, Totowa, followed by mass at St. Gerard R.C. Church, Paterson. Entombment was at Laurel Grove Mausoleum, Totowa. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, the former Angelina Stifano of Haledon; his son, Alan of Morris Plains; and a grandson.

He was predeceased by a granddaughter.

Gloria Podmayersky

POMPTON LAKES Services were held for Gloria Esposito Podmayersky, 67, of Paramus, who died on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008. She was the mother of Robert of this community.

Services were Monday at Vander Plaat Memorial Home, Paramus, followed by mass at the R.C. Church of the Annunciation, Paramus.

Mrs. Podmayersky also is survived by her husband, Charles; her brother, Ralph Esposito of Ephrata, Pa.; and two grandsons.

Ivano Cerino

RINGWOOD Services will be held for Ivano Cerino, 96, of Manchester, who died on Friday, Oct. 24, 2008. He was the father of Yvonne Hauser of this community.

Arrangements are by Patrick J. Conte Funeral Home, Elmwood Park. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Paterson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5084 or to American Legion Post 147, both of Elmwood Park.

Mr. Cerino also is survived by four grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.

He was predeceased by his wife, the former Madeline Pierantozzi, and his sisters, Beth Carro and Eileen Fiore.
