LINCOLN PARK - Blood and platelet donors needed
LINCOLN PARK - Donors who successfully donate blood or platelets on Tuesday, Oct. 28 and Wednesday, Oct. 29 at Community Blood Services’ Lincoln Park donor center will receive a complimentary stadium blanket.
“Blood donors can make a difference,” said Patricia Cascino, recruitment manager at Community Blood Services. “One way we can thank the donors who warm our hearts by giving the gift of life is to present them with our cozy stadium blanket to help warm their hearts as the days grow colder.”
To receive the hunter green fleece blanket, donors can donate at the Lincoln Park center, 63 Beaverbrook Road, Suite 304, on Tuesday or Wednesday, Oct. 28 or 29, from 1 to 8 p.m. They can also donate at the Paramus center, 970 Linwood Ave. West, on Monday, Oct. 27 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. or on Tuesday or Wednesday, Oct. 28 or 29, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Donors can call 201-251-3703 to make an appointment to donate. Walk-ins are also welcome but appointments are needed to donate platelets.
Cascino said more than 4.5 million patients need blood transfusions in the United States each year. She noted that as blood usage increases, it is becoming more critical that people become regular donors who give two to three times a year.
Currently, there is less than a one-day supply of blood on Community Blood Services’ shelves. All blood types are required to meet the needs of critically ill patients at area hospitals, especially O negative, O positive and B negative. Platelets are needed to treat patients diagnosed with cancer or other blood disorders.
Community Blood Services provides blood and blood products to more than 30 hospitals in northern New Jersey, New York City and southern New York.
Whole blood donors must be 17 to 75 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. Donors also receive a complimentary cholesterol screening.
