RIVERDALE - Quarry's operational license up for renewal

(by Leslie Scott - Staff Writer - October 15, 2008)
RIVERDALE - During their Oct. 6 meeting, the mayor and council talked with representatives from Tilcon about renewing the quarry’s operational license.

Mayor William Budesheim said the borough keeps the company’s plan on file for residents to view online and at Borough Hall.

The borough will schedule a public hearing in January, which is when the council is expected to vote on renewing this license.

In the past, the borough has talked about the many complaints regarding dust and blasting it has received against the company.

This year, Borough Engineer Paul Darmofalski said only six complaints have come in.

“I have gotten no citizens’ complaints other than e-mails Bill (the mayor) has had that he forwarded on to me and there really hasn’t been that many,” Darmofalski said.

Tilcon attorney Brian Montag said the company plans to continue operations for the next seven to eight years.

When the company does near the end of its operation, it will begin to get the property ready for future development, Montag explained.
