OBITUARIES - 09/21/2008


Harold Meagher

BLOOMINGDALE Services were held for Harold “Hal” Meagher, 84, of Toms River, who died on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008. He was a former resident of this community.

Born in New Brunswick, Mr. Meagher lived in Lodi, Oakland, and Bloomingdale before moving to Toms River 20 years ago. He worked for the Swiss Precision Instrument Corporation, Carlstadt, from 1974 to 1998 and then for Bendix Corp., Bendix, and the Murphy Bus Company, Brick. A U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he was a past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Ernest A. Rutter Post 9384, Oakland. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help R.C. Church, Oakland, and a 30-year member of the Free Reformed Church of Pompton Plains as well.

Services were Thursday at the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, Wayne, followed by interment at Maryrest Cemetery, Darlington.

Mr. Meagher is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth Beversluis; his daughters, Mary Bancala of Towaco, Pat Wagoner of Franklin Lakes, and Kathleen Friedhoff of Mount Laurel; his son, Michael, of Franklin; his stepsons, Don Rogers of Pompton Plains, and John Rogers of Sebastian, Fla.; his stepdaughter, Arlene Cooper, of Pompton Plains; 24 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Audrey Sherwood; his son, Kenneth; and his brother, Kenneth.

Ebei Dawson

WEST MILFORD Services were held for Ebei Evelyn Dawson, 78, of this township, who died on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008.

Born in Brooklyn, Mrs. Dawson lived in Little Ferry and Edison before moving to West Milford. She worked for J.C. Penney, Manhattan, before retiring in 1984. Also, she was active with the Raritan Valley Baptist Church, Edison.

Arrangements were by the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains.

Mrs. Dawson is survived by her son, Lawrence Loesel; her daughter, Cynthia Doenges; her sister, Vilma Swiderski; and a grandson.

She was predeceased by her parents, John and Susan Takach.

John Deichsel

WEST MILFORD Services were held for John Deichsel, 82, of this township, who died on Monday, Sept. 15, 2008.

Born in New York City, Mr. Deichsel lived in Mahwah before moving to West Milford 51 years ago. He was a sales representative for Thermal American Fused Quartz, Montville, before retiring. Previously, he worked for E.I. DuPont, Pompton Lakes. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II as well.

Services were Friday at the Richards Funeral Home, West Milford, followed by interment at North Church Cemetery, North Hardyston.

Mr. Deichsel is survived by his wife, the former Jeanette Rude; his sons, Michael and Louis, of West Milford; his sister, Dorothy Kaiser, of Florida; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Louise.

Ingrid Lilienthal

BUTLER Services were held for Ingrid Anna Lilienthal, 72, of Howell, who died on Monday, Sept. 15, 2008. She was a former resident of this borough.

Born in Bremen, Germany, Mrs. Lilienthal lived there before moving to the United States and settling in Butler, where she lived from 1976 to 1992, when she moved to Howell. She was a homemaker and one of the founders of the Butler Soccer Club.

Services were Saturday at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Ringwood. Arrangements were by the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 E. 33rd St., New York, NY 10016 or to a charity of your choice.

Mrs. Lilienthal is survived by her husband, Robert; her sons, Ulf of Pompton Plains, Lars of Royalton, Vt., and Sven of the Pompton Plains section of Pequannock; her brother, Udo Ellendt, of Germany; and four grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents, Karl and Marie Ellendt; and a grandson.

Anthony Bianco

RINGWOOD Services were held for Anthony R. Bianco, 60, of this community, who died on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008.

Mr. Bianco was born in Manhattan, N.Y. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Services were Wednesday at St. Mary’s Parish, Pompton Lakes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 20 Mercer St., Hackensack, NJ 07601 or to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, Va. 22312.

Mr. Bianco is survived by his wife, the former Cynthia Delmage; his daughters, Catherine Andrade of the Hewitt neighborhood of West Milford, and Emily Harman of Frederick, Md.; his brother, Aniello, of Riverdale, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.

Jacqueline Ingemi

KINNELON Services were held for Jacqueline J. Romeo Ingemi, 64, of Fairfield, who died on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008. She was the sister of Ernest Romeo of this community.

Services were Thursday at the LeRoy P. Wooster Funeral Home, Atco, followed by mass at Assumption R.C. Church, Atco. Interment was at the Atco Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the United Way of Bergen County, 6 Forest Ave., Paramus, NJ 07652.

Mrs. Ingemi also is survived by her husband, Anthony; her son, Anthony, of Rockaway; her daughter, Monique Horishny, of Basking Ridge; her sister, Lynda Romeo, of Collings Lakes; and a grandson.

Brian LeLay

BLOOMINGDALE Services were held for Brian K. LeLay, a resident of this community, who died on Monday, Sept. 15, 2008.

Mr. LeLay lived in Fair Lawn before moving to Bloomingdale.

Services were Wednesday at the Vander Plaat Colonial Home, Fair Lawn.

Mr. LeLay is survived by his father, George; his son, Brian; his sister, Donna Chetnik; and his brother, George.

He was predeceased by his mother, Barbara; and his brother, Craig.

Georgette Vander Meulen

WEST MILFORD Services were held for Georgette Schamble Vander Meulen, 81, of this township, who died on Monday, Sept. 15, 2008.

Born in Paterson, Mrs. Vander Meulen lived in West Paterson for 20 years and in Salisbury, Md., for 13 years before moving to West Milford five years ago.

Services were Friday at the Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, Hawthorne, followed by interment at Fair Lawn Cemetery, Fair Lawn.

Mrs. Vander Meulen is survived by her daughters, Debra Perin of West Milford, and Carolyn Vander Meulen of Salisbury, Md.; her son, George, of Oak Ridge; her brothers, James Schamble of Clifton, and Russell Schamble of St. Augustine, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Martin.

Rev. Clement Healy, OFM

RINGWOOD Services were held for the Rev. Clement Healy, OFM, of this community, who died on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008.

Services were Thursday at Holy Name Friary, Ringwood, followed by interment at God’s Acre Cemetery, Ringwood. Arrangements were by D’Agostino Funeral Home, Wanaque.

Peter Newarski Jr.

RINGWOOD Services were held for Peter P.F. Newarski Jr., 90, of Garfield, who died on Monday, Sept. 15, 2008. He was the father of Peter of this community.

Services were Friday at the Shook Funeral Home, Clifton, followed by mass at Most Holy Name R.C. Church, Garfield. Interment was at St. Francis Cemetery, Lodi.

Mr. Newarski also is survived by his wife, the former Nadya Klypka; his other sons, Michael Newarski of Knoxville, Tenn., and Kenneth Sklarski; his sister, Annie Olszowy, of Little Falls; his brother, Emil, of Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

He was predeceased by his brother, John; his sisters, Syl Newarski, Stella Bialek, and Julia Sudol; and a grandson.

Carmela Sisto

BLOOMINGDALE Services were held for Carmela “Chickie” Sisto, 80, of this community, who died on Monday, Sept. 15.

Mrs. Sisto was a teacher at St. Anthony’s Church, Butler, for many years.

Services were Saturday at St. Anthony’s R.C. Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.

Mrs. Sisto is survived by her sons, Anthony, Michael, Frank, and Sal; and five grandchildren.

Dorothy Zolnowski

LINCOLN PARK Services will be held for Dorothy “Dottie” Zolnowski, 63, of Lincoln Park, who died on Friday, Sept. 5, 2008.

Born in Passaic, she lived in Lincoln Park for more than 30 years. She worked in the Public Notices Department of the North Jersey Media Group, West Paterson.

Arrangements are private.

She is survived by her sisters, Elaine Petrera and Eleanor Evans.
