RINGWOOD - Forum to teach homeowners how to go green and save $$

(by Teresa Edmond - Staff Writer - September 03, 2008)

RINGWOOD - Local environmental group Skylands CLEAN will sponsor a forum to inform citizens how they can go green and save green with environmentally friendly technology.

Called “Save your money, Save your health, Save the planet,” the forum is scheduled on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. in the Ringwood Public Library community room. The library’s address is 30 Cannici Drive.

Besides learning about green building technology for constructing and renovating homes, forum attendees will also learn how to reduce common household pollutants to make their homes safer and themselves healthier.

Architect Anastasia Harrison of the Millington-based WESKetch Architecture and Interiors will address cutting household energy costs by using environment friendly technology in homes. She will speak in cooperation with the New Jersey chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council, an entity that supports the design, construction, operation and maintenance of environmentally conscious buildings that are budget wise and healthy to work and live in.

In a press statement, Skylands CLEAN President Jon Berry said he’s “very pleased” about his organization sponsoring the forum at a time when the national economy and ever-present environmental awareness calls for considering green technology as an alternative in daily use.

"In our country now, we are seeing the coming together of a growing concern about pollutants in our homes and local environment,” he said. “(We’re also seeing a) greater awareness of the need to reduce our impact on the environment, and an economic situation that makes sustainable practices all the more attractive and sensible.”

Considering eco-friendly technology to preserve one’s budget, health and the planet is a “win-win strategy,” especially since such technology would become more affordable as time rolls by, said Skylands CLEAN Executive Director Robin O’Hearn.

“It (green technology) will become an even more attractive option as the outlay for installing solar panels or green technology becomes less expensive,” she said. “And it has the added bonus of reducing our impact on the planet.”

The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. For further information, contact the Skylands CLEAN office at 973-962-6602 or rohearn@skyclean.org.
