POMPTON LAKES - The borough has found someone to keep it managed and running properly. Interim Borough Administrator Vito Gadaleta was hired to be the full-time borough administrator.

Gadaleta is assuming the role that had been occupied by the former Borough Administrator Lawrence Pollex since 1998.

He has been the interim administrator since January when Pollex went out on medical leave and subsequently retired.

Gadaleta is happy he’s able to work in Pompton Lakes.

“I expressed my appreciation to the mayor and council for the confidence they have shown in appointing me as the borough administrator," he said.

“I’m looking forward to being a part of the Pompton Lakes municipal government. We have a very competent staff of employees here in the borough and I look forward to working alongside all of them.”

Over the years, Gadaleta has served in many different roles in municipal government.

He started his career in 1978 with the Township of Neptune. He was hired as the town’s typist clerk and stayed there for the next 10 years.

“I became educated in all of the departmental operations for municipal government during my tenure at Neptune,” he said.

During his tenure in Neptune, Gadaleta worked as community development director, director of code enforcement and construction, and deputy township clerk and administrator.

After being passed up to become the municipal clerk for Neptune, Gadaleta was successful at obtaining the position as the borough clerk administrator with the Borough of Allenhurst.

He remained with Allenhurst until 2004. After that he did some municipal consulting work through 2007 and he worked as the interim clerk and administrator for the Borough of Sussex before coming to Pompton Lakes in January.

Gadaleta said he enjoys managing municipalities.

“Most people don’t look at municipal government as running a business and in essence this is a $12 million business I’m charged with managing,” he said.

Gadaleta said he welcomes all of the daily challenges that come along with the job.

“Hopefully when I get there on a full-time basis, I will have a great opportunity to meet with the residents of the town and address their needs. Because that is what our primary purpose and function is as a municipal employee — to manage the business of this government and to address the needs and concerns of the residents of this community and hopefully I will be able to manage both of those things effectively.”

Gadaleta’s first day as the full-time business administrator will be Sept. 2 and his starting salary will be $90,000.
