WEST MILFORD - Greenwood Lake surveying to continue
(by Bryan La Placa - Webmaster and Argus Managing Editor - August 12, 2008)
WEST MILFORD - The Township Council has awarded a $3,500 contract to Arthur J. Schappell Jr. for survey services in connection with the Greenwood Lake Stormwater Implementation Project.
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) Division of Watershed Management awarded the township a $12,000 grant for topographic and property boundary surveys. This money is to be used for initiating stormwater implementation projects to reduce the phosphorus load entering the bi-state Greenwood Lake. The phosphorus creates algae blooms and weed growth in Greenwood Lake.
Last February, the Township Council approved an $8,500 contract for Schappell for surveying services. Schappell has completed that work.
Princeton Hydro, a company of scientists, engineers and environmental planners that design plans for water and wetlands resource management and has worked with the township, has recommended the additional surveying services.
The township’s Geographic Information Systems specialist, Rob Sparkes, has recommended that the township retain Schappell again to perform the additional work that Princeton Hydro recommended.
The council resolution adopted on Aug. 6 is the green light for Schappell to perform all required topographic and property boundary surveys in connection with the Greenwood Lake Stormwater Implementation Project.
