Back to School Night
Lakeland Regional High School will hold its Back to School Night for second-semester classes on Wednesday, Feb. 6 (snow date: Thursday, Feb. 7) at 6:40 p.m. in the auditorium. This is an excellent opportunity for parents and guardians to meet their child’s teachers and become familiar with the course requirements, classroom activities, and grading policies.
The program will start at 6:40 p.m. with brief comments from Albert Guazzo, superintendent, and Joseph LoCascio, principal. Parents will then follow their child’s schedule for the second semester. Classroom teachers will highlight the curriculum in their courses and provide information about classroom activities and assessments.
The faculty and administration are looking forward to meeting all the parents and guardians of Lakeland students at Back to School Night.

Continuing its commitment to a strong academic program in the Catholic tradition, St. Anthony of Padua School in Butler is beginning registration for the 2008-09 school year. Kindergarten tea
Ringwood Christian School, 30 Carletondale Road, will be hosting a "Getting Ready for Kindergarten" Tea on Thursday, Feb. 7, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. All parents of children who may enter kindergarten in September are invited to attend.
Christina Young, kindergarten teacher at Ringwood Christian School, will present some suggestions for preparing your child for the transition to kindergarten. She will address educational as well as emotional and social issues that affect school readiness. In addition, Young will answer questions that relate to the kindergarten program of Ringwood Christian School.

Open house
Ringwood Christian School, 30 Carletondale Road, will hold an elementary school open house on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the program will be held on Tuesday, March 4. There will be several special presentations, and school parents, students and teachers will be available to answer questions. Tricky tray
Tickets are now available for Hillview Elementary School’s ninth annual Tricky Tray – Hillview Rocks! It will be held on Thursday, Feb. 28, at the Villa, 90 Route 46 East, Mountain Lakes. Doors will open at 6 p.m.
Admission is $35, which includes dinner and one sheet of 25 small prize tickets. Additionally, "pre-pack" prize tickets, a $29 value, are being sold for $20 through Jan. 30. After this date, pre-packs will no longer be available. All admission and pre-pack prize tickets are being sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Tables seat up to 12 people.

Scholarship fundraiser
There will be a benefit pancake breakfast on Saturday, Feb. 9 from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Bloomingdale Firemen’s Hall, 97 Hamburg Turnpike, Bloomingdale. All proceeds will benefit the National Honor Society of Butler High School. The breakfast will be served buffet style with pancakes, sausage, and eggs as well as coffee, tea and juice. Social skills
Social skills groups for children with special needs, ages 7 to 11, will run on Fridays from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Hillcrest Community Center, located at 1810 Macopin Road in West Milford. Groups will focus on teaching children how to interact with each other and the environment around them by learning communication, expression of thought and conflict resolution, among other skills. Support group
A support group for Bloomingdale families, offered by the Association for Special Children and Families, will meet at the Bloomingdale Recreation Center, 61 Main St. Sessions will include guest speakers and general discussions about disabilities and parental support. The next meeting will be on Thursday, Feb. 7 from 8 to 10 p.m. followed by sessions on March 6, April 3, May 1 and June 5 at the same time.

Child Find is a component of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), which requires states to identify, locate, and evaluate all children with disabilities, up to the age of 21, who need early intervention or special education services. Members wanted
The members of the non-profit Pequannock Township Foundation for Educational Excellence are looking forward to bringing the many resources of the community together for the benefit of Pequannock Township public schools.
The foundation’s mission is to enrich the academic and extracurricular experiences of the Pequannock School District. The group seeks to develop sources and raise funds that will allow it to enhance academics and programs in the township’s schools.

Special services
The Lincoln Park School District is calling upon the parents of local children ages 3 to 21 to consider whether they may qualify for special services. Parents should come forward if their kids are experiencing physical, sensory, emotional, communication, cognitive, or social difficulties because help is available.
Services are offered for students attending public and private schools, along with homeless and migrant children who live in Lincoln Park. Contact Grace Marinello, director of special services, at 973-696-9150 to arrange a meeting with members of the Child Study Team. If students are eligible, they will receive services at no charge through the Lincoln Park public schools.
RIVERDALE
Child Find
Riverdale School is reaching out to parents of children ages 3 to 21 who may be experiencing physical, sensory, communication, cognitive or social difficulties. Parents can call Riverdale School at 973-839-1300, ext. 14, to arrange for an appointment and/or referral to the Child Study Team (CST).
Riverdale Public School is responsible for locating, identifying and evaluating all children, ages 3 through 21, who may be disabled. Included in the school’s "Child Find" are public and nonpublic children from 3 to 5 years of age and children who are highly mobile, such as migrant and homeless students.
